Along with his fellow pianists Kissin, Lugansky ou Berezowsky, Alexander Melnikov is an emblematic figure of the amazing new generation of Russian pianists, heirs to artists such as Guilel or Richter. And as it happened, Richter invited him very early on to the festivals he organized, for instance at the Grange de Meslay. A graduate from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Academy, Melnikov completed his training in Munich; he simultaneously studied the pianoforte and received many awards in international competitions that of Elizabeth, Queen of Belgium, among others. A lover of chamber music, Melnikov, who already performed twice at the Théâtre de la Ville is at home in all kinds of repertoires. This impetuous personality will use his magic fingers to play two monumental and intense romantic pieces: Schumann's 12 Symphonic Studies and the 24 Preludes byChopin.
