Docteur Faustus  creation

Science without moral conscience
Christopher Marlowe created this  Faustus whose dream is to surpass all other men of learning — never mind the consequences.

To mention Faust is first to evoke Goethe  and man facing the temptation of youth, fortune and love. Victor Gauthier-Martin dreams about this mythical character and wants to understand the nature of the fascination emanating from Faustus, a fascination which has traveled down the ages. He goes back to Christopher Marlowe, the most famous Elizabethan author after Shakespeare, a great poet and apparently a great rascal who died quite young in a pub drawl. The author and the character have more than one feature in common. Just like Marlowe, Doctor Faustus has no time to waste. He is a rebel who is trapped by his unfathomable craving for knowledge and truth.
Mephistopheles guides him until he fulfills his desires and his dreams, whatever the consequences may be. "He hands over to Faustus the catalogue of the seven cardinal sins as so many keys to achieve success Faustus grabs it  […], thus laying the foundations of modern cynicism. One which puts forward the intolerable as a good selling argument."
