The half Israeli, half English choreographer and musician is back, with ten dancers and one question: what does « reality » mean in our world ?
His powerful physicality combined with his formal limpidity dazzled the audience last season. With the double bill Uprising / In Your Rooms, Hofesh Shechter, the Israeli-born, London based choreographer, a newcomer on the French scene but an acclaimed artist in England for six years, unveiled an arsenal of artistic ammunitions which was significant, to say the least. sinewy choreographic writing, mastery of space, of lighting effects, of both the group and the soloists, so many qualities on display! Just add a knack for clip, unpredictability and swiftness and the audience was blown away. The new piece by this extremely gifted young man (he also composes the score for his shows) is called Political Mother and relies on ten dancers and eight musicians to address the tough theme of the world’s unreality. In the face of some truly incredible world events, be they political or ecological, what does normality mean? Political Mother is the first full length work made by Shechter since his débuts in 2003.
