Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s exciting challenge is to revive two of her major pieces, thus encompassing twenty-five years of artistic work: Rosas danst Rosas was choreographed in 1983, the very year of the foundation of the Rosas company, and Zeitung was created in 2008. Oddly enough, Rosas danst Rosas, a piece for four women dancing to the rasping and pulsating rhythms conceived by Thierry De Mey, is both minimalist and  excessive. Its stage score in four parts is punctuated by gestures from everyday life, its rhythm agitated, in keeping with the typical restless style of the Flemish choreographer. The performers work on a repertoire of basic movements, demonstrating how the emphasis on a specific gesture, such as crossing and uncrossing the legs, results in the impulse, the swing even, given to body movements the choreographer devised, now virtuoso in the extreme. That is what Zeitung will prove both with melancholy and vitality. The latter piece, for nine performers who dance to the music of Bach, Webern and Schönberg, is accompanied by pianist Alain Franco. This will be an invaluable programme, Anne Teresa’s précis de style.
