JUN’ICHIRO TANIZAKI (1886-1965) An author of short stories, novels and essays (among which In Praise of Shadows, one of the most famous ones), Tanizaki is the only Japanese writer ever published in French in the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade. He has produced an extensive literary production which was at first influenced by western literature, but turned little by little to themes inspired by his country. His fascination for women’s beauty is one of the recurring obsessions of his work.
