Étrange composition chorégraphique et sonore, Text to speech emprunte son nom à un logiciel de synthèse vocale qui fait l’objet de manipulations insolites pour la scène. À partir de cette nouvelle « matière à entendre », Gilles Jobin opère un subtil brouillage acoustique, remixé en direct sur le plateau par les interprètes ou lui-même. Entre humour et angoisse, il interroge le grand théâtre de l’information et son incidence sur les corps. Textes historiques ou d’actualité, voix, musiques et vibrations sonores, projection d’images sur écran font partie du dispositif. La nouvelle pièce du chorégraphe suisse se joue des apparences et de la perception. Elle murmure, susurre, fait entendre en plusieurs langues, mortes ou vivantes, une curieuse actualité qui interroge le statut de la danse et de l’interprétation. Text to speech est un paysage dont les images concrètes ou poétiques oscillent entre le réel et ses distorsions. |
Named after a computer programme for voice synthesis submitted to all manner of unexpected manipulations for the stage, Text to Speech is a strange composition both of dancing and of sound. Using this new ‘sound matter’ as a starting point, Gilles Jobin has produced a subtle acoustic jamming which is remixed live on stage by himself or his dancers. Halfway between humour and anguish, he questions the great ‘theatrum mundi’ of information and how it affects human bodies. The material for this piece includes recorded historic or topical texts, voices, music and sound vibrations, as well as images projected on a screen. The Swiss choreographer’s latest piece playfully hinges on appearances and perceptions. It is full of whispers and murmurs; it is full of utterances in ancient or modern languages of weird snatches of news which challenge the traditional status of dancing and interpretation. Text to Speech is like a landscape whose concrete representations or fantasy images fluctuate between reality and its many distortions. Irène Filiberti |
