Shantala Shivalingappa is a dancer of kuchipudi, a traditional Indian style. This season, she’s breaking new ground with a show consisting of two contemporary soli. One is the work of the Japanese choreographer Ushio Amagatsu, member of the Sankai Juku company; the other was rehearsed when she stayed and worked at the Tanztheater Wupperthal of Pina Baush with whom she has been collaborating since 1999. Shantala Shivalingappa links these two aesthetic realms which are essential developments in the history of contemporary dancing. Thanks to her grace, her agility and undulating ports-de-bras, she will give this highly original evening its singular attire. Jeanne Liger |
Danseuse de kuchipudi, style traditionnel indien, Shantala Shivalingappa innove cette saison avec un spectacle composé de deux soli contemporains. L’un est signé par le chorégraphe japonais Ushio Amagatsu, de la compagnie Sankai Juku ; l’autre a été répété lors d’une résidence de travail au Tanztheater Wuppertal de Pina Bausch avec laquelle elle collabore depuis 1999. Entre ces deux univers, deux gestes essentiels de l’histoire de la danse contemporaine, Shantala Shivalingappa fera le trait d’union, assurant par sa grâce déliée et ses ports de bras ondulants un habillage singulier à une soirée hautement inédite.
