La violoniste du Sud Kanyakumari, soliste et accompagnatrice de renom, a imaginé cette rencontre avec le sitariste Janardan Mitta, qui vit comme elle à Madras. Les jugalbandis entre le violon du Nord et le sitar sont devenus une tradition, alors que les duos entre le violon du Sud et le sitar du Nord apparaissent comme une rareté. D’où le succès que les deux musiciens ont déjà rencontré lors de leurs nombreux concerts à travers l’Inde. La sensibilité soyeuse et l’énergie toute carnatique de Kanyakumari s’allient au jeu du sitariste, sans doute l’un des élèves les plus originaux de Ravi Shankar par son style inimitable empreint d’une poésie où priment tendresse et fantaisie onirique, qui nous font penser à Vilayat Khan... Violinist Kanyakumari, a renowned solo artist and accompanist from the South, has imagined this encounter with sitarist Janardan Mitta, who, like her, lives in Madras. Jugalbandis between North Indian violins and sitars have become a tradition, whereas duets between South Indian violins and North Indian sitars are seldom heard. Hence the success the two musicians have already met with during their numerous concerts throughout India. Kanyakumari's silky sensitivity and her very carnatic energy combine with the technique of Janardan Mitta, undoubtedly one of Ravi Shankar's most original students.
