Kaushiki Chakrabarty, dont c’est le deuxième concert au Théâtre de la Ville, est sans conteste la révélation du chant Khyal de ces dernières années. Le jury qui l’avait couronnée pour la BBC Award de 2005 l’avait bien pressenti. Les plus grands solistes de l’Inde l’ont honorée. Fille du célèbre chanteur Ajoy Chabrabarty, cette jeune Diva semble être née pour le chant. Sa voix de miel, aux grains d’une chaleur magnétisante, possède une force et une souplesse qui lui permettent toutes les figures du khyal et des thumree romantiques. Pour elle, chanter c’est respirer et ouvrir son âme au mystère du monde. Le CD « Pure » qui l’a fait connaître porte bien son titre : pureté de l’intonation et des traits, pureté dans l’approche des ragas. Sachant combiner différents aspects des écoles stylistiques (gharanas), elle s’est forgé un style qui révèle une personnalité attachante. Christian Ledoux |
Kaushiki Chakrabarty is back at Théâtre de la Ville. She has been without a doubt the discovery of the last couple of years in Khyal singing. The 2005 BBC Award jury was quite perceptive about her future when they selected her. She has earned the recognition of the greatest solo singers in India. The daughter of the renowned singer Ajoy Chakrabarty, this young diva is a born singer. Her mellifluous and warm-grained magnetic voice is endowed with power and flexibility, allowing her to explore the complete range of the khyal and the romantic thumrees. To her, singing is synonymous with breathing and opening her soul to the world’s mysteries. The CD which made her famous is entitled “Pure”: the intonation, the virtuoso phrases, the approach to the ragas, everything is sheer purity. By combining various aspects of the stylistic traditions (gharanas), she has created a style of her own which reflects her deeply moving personality. Christian Ledoux |
