D’origine irlandaise, Ross Daly est né en Angleterre mais ne se revendique d’aucune terre. Citoyen du monde mu par un insatiable appétit d’apprendre, c’est un musicien nomade aimant à déceler et inventer des affinités entre des musiques. Celles qui l’ont happé viennent d’Inde du Nord, de Turquie, d’Afghanistan, d’Iran… de Crète, où il s’est installé il y a trente ans par passion pour la lyra, la vièle locale à trois cordes. Ross Daly trouve son espace entre les sources qui l’ont nourri et une constante exaltation pour la composition. Ignorant la vaine polémique opposant puristes et novateurs des traditions musicales, il suit sereinement son chemin de liberté. Patrick Labesse |
Ross Daly who is of Irish descent was born in England but doesn't consider himself as a native of a particular country. A citizen of the world moved by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he is a nomadic musician who enjoys revealing and inventing affinities between different musical cultures. He was carried away successively by the music from North India, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran and from Crete where he settled thirty years ago, out of his passion for the lyre, the local three-stringed fiddle. Ross Daly draws his musical space from the roots that have inspired him and from his unceasing enthusiasm for composition. Refusing the pointless controversy between purists and innovators regarding musical traditions, Ross Daly peacefully follows his own way to freedom. Patrick Labesse |
