A Theater open to the World
International festivals and partner-theatres THE FESTIVAL D’AUTOMNE À PARIS [AUTUMN PARIS FESTIVAL] offers a programme of multidisciplinary international and nomadic productions. Commissioning, presenting and encouraging experimental endeavours, hosting significant new works in France and foregrounding non-Western cultures, that has always been part of its basic agenda ever since its foundation by Michel Guy in 1972. For the 2009-2010 season, the Théâtre de la Ville is very pleased to extend its partnership with the Festival d’Automne; they share seven projects which were imagined and started in common. Thus the collaboration is given a new impetus around famous leading artists or artists worth discovering. THE NAPOLI TEATRO FESTIVAL ITALIA is being launched for the second time. Throughout June it will host over 40 productions from 18 different countries. Last year Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota had presented Shakespeare’s Tanto Amor Despiçado [Love’s Labour’s Lost] with a mixed French and Portuguese company. This year the Naples Festival opens with L’Européenne [Europeana] by David Lescot, associated author at the Théâtre de la Ville for 2009-2010. THE THÉÂTRE SILVIA MONFORT for its new season embarks on a novel project, under the aegis of the Arts Sauts company’s cofounders Laurence de Magalhäes and Stéphane Ricordel, both recently appointed directors. A lively centre for bold artistic and aesthetic experiments intended for the general public, the Monfort theatre will focus on contemporary creation as of next September. The Théâtre de la Ville enthusiastically supports the new team’s project and both theatres will jointly welcome the Théâtre Dromesco. THE CENTQUATRE was inaugurated a year ago and is a new Parisian municipal institution. It aims at emphasizing exchanges of ideas, relationships to others and to art. For the 2009-2010 season, the Théâtre de la Ville and the Centquatre join forces to produce Fabrice Melquiot’s Wanted Petula. Directed by Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota, this show, intended for family– and children audiences, will be created by the Théâtre de la Ville’s Artistic Ensemble. It will provide an opportunity to initiate a series of encounters and workshops meant for the children and teenagers of the 18th and 19th arrondissements in Paris. The Théâtre de la Ville on tour Creation and production are at the core of our artistic project. The Théâtre de la Ville will organize the touring of numerous productions both in France and abroad, to meet new audiences.
