MICRO FESTIVAL

Cello, oboe, violin and piano in a single concert! Such a variety of instruments is rarely heard at once in a repertoire which covers three whole centuries of music.
And such a refreshing breeze, too, mostly from the East, with three musicians in their thirties relying on a hardly older pianist. The latter, Peter Laul, born in Saint Petersburg in 1977, brilliantly represents the great Russian piano school. The audience at the Théâtre de la Ville have already witnessed his talent during his concerts with Graf Mourja, Françoise Groben or Marc Copey.
Bartók, Ravel, Rachmaninov and Kreisler are gathered in Liana Gourjia’s programme. The ardent Georgian violinist gives forth her miraculous sounds whether she performs with chamber or full orchestra, or even completely on her own as in Bartók’s Chaconne.
Oboist Giorgi Gvantseladze, a student of François Leleux’s and a soloist with the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, is another equally striking Georgian personality. His programme includes Schumann and Antonio Pasculli, as well a two rarely heard pieces for oboe solo by Telemann and Silvestrini.
Cellist Julian Stackel from Germany already boasts an extensive discography along with a wide international reputation. He has chosen Debussy’s sonata and Kodály’s sonata for cello solo to further embellish a concert which exemplifies the youthful spirit that inspires the Théâtre de la Ville’s new musical programming.
