L'Etat de siège  creation

(THE STATE OF SIEGE)

A dizzying allegory, a modern myth created by albert camus with a fascinating freedom, a complete and choral theatre that’s both truthful and poetic.
This rare piece, created in 1948 by Jean-Louis Barrault, develops a multiple allegory on corrupt, authoritarian, and fascist regimes, tinted by the fantastic. Albert Camus, who often referenced the golden age of Spanish theatre (Calderón, from whom he adapted certain pieces) said about him: “My avowed purposed was to wrest the theatre from psychological speculations and to make loud cries that bend or liberate crowds of people resound on our murmuring stages.”
