About the author, Japan and wanting to be Japanese. Theatre group De Warme Winkel received much acclaim in recent years for a genre of their own invention: ‘oeuvre pieces’, in which the work, life and zeitgeist of an artist are all hurled against the canvas of the present. Junishiro Tanizaki and more precisely the essay “In Praise of Shadows” and the novel “The Key” are their source of inspiration for this piece. The first one is a brilliant meditation about the Oriental aestheticism – the art of revealing more by showing less. And the second one is one of the best erotic novels ever written. Die Warme Winkel could not be more pleased with such a literary tool at hand allowing them to trample the false pretenses of our omnipotent showbiz society. Caustic!
