The Old Woman  creation - french premiere
in french and in russian, french subtitles

AT ODDS WITH THE REALITY EFFECT
Robert Wilson directs two men of universal calibre: Mikhail Baryshnikov and Willem Dafoe. The former - dancer, choreographer, former star of the Kirov, introduced to the Balanchine method at the New York City Ballet – is hailed as a master of his art. The latter, an actor with a wide experience of the techniques of performance within the Wooster Group, is, in addition, the star of an exceptional filmography. And here they are, immersed in the world of Russian poet Daniil Kharms, a world completely at odds with the reality effect.

A revelation.
Another theatre of the absurd. We leave the theatre like awestruck victims of a magic trick .
Financial Times

Consider the immortal twosomes of combative, wisecracking comedy: Bob and Ray, Laurel and Hardy, Hope and Crosby. Now think about adding to that list the names Baryshnikov and Dafoe.
New York Times

Theatregoers gave a standing ovation to a dramatic combination of globally-renowned talents at the world premiere of The Old Woman.
The inspiration for the show was a story Baryshnikov loved, married with his desire to work with internationally-acclaimed director Robert Wilson.
In mask-like make-up, they give superb, tightly-choreographed performances veering from burlesque to pathos.
You’ll either love or loathe this visually-stunning production. Not only does it take theatre to another level, it resonates with playwrights of the past, paying homage to the likes of Gogol and Ionesco.
