Since vsprs and pitié! [Mercy!] Alain Platel and his dancers have developed a bodily language based on “bodies in a state of hysteria”. For the founder of the Belgian collective of the C.de la B. ballet company, this means a form of hypersensitivity to “ Life in the Extreme” rather than a pathological state. Alain Platel’s choreographic creations portray mostly drifting beings, often so close to us. He depicts the art of surviving which affects our innermost emotions. His new production, Out of Context, is remarkably stylized. There are only 8 dancers on the stage and no musicians like in his more recent superb pieces. For Alain Platel today, the stage is “ a place of emergency with extatic bodies.” He is the most accurate witness of our fears and our hopes. Out of Context the piece may be, but it no doubt goes straight to the heart,
