J'ai arrêté de croire au futur… (2015)  creation

THE VISCERAL NEED TO SPEAK
A SQUAD OF ANGRY BODIES, FACING THE MISDEEDS OF DICTATORS IN AFRICA.

Andréya Ouamba has a specific quality, a blunt and direct spirit that takes the bull by the horns and faces things as they are. His performance for five dancers, J’ai arrêté de croire au futur…, reaffirms this visceral need to speak, to denounce, without avoiding anything.
On the stage, a dictator (the actor Wakeu Fogaing who wrote his own text) manipulates morale with a worn-out speech, used too many times to spread too many lies And yet ironically, the impact of this speech makes the group react, projecting it into dry steps, bursts of movements, and sweeps of angry bodies. Rage, tension and helplessness, the need to accept the challenge to pick up the gauntlet to achieve a future, Andréya Ouamba, who relies on the power of live music from Aymeric Avice, takes the major issue in Africa by the throat –  the dictator and his misdeeds. Sneakily, he slips in another essential interrogation – how to find faith in another?
