WHERE TIMES INTERTWINE

From dusk until dawn. After she brilliantly translated and transposed, with En attendant [While Waiting], the troubles and uneasiness of an ending medieval world into a contemporary body, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker comes back to the recalcitrant scores of the 14th century Ars Subtilior, but this time at the dawn of a new day. This is the way the cycle of time and eras goes; and we might be in one of these moments when things swing, when, as American essayist Jeremy Rifkin says, “the dream of a humanity freed through mass industrialization collapses” without us being able to foresee an uncertain future. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has that kind of premonition, but it is as an artist of movement that she unveils, for anyone willing to see, “the passage of time, the never ending transformation of what surrounds us and only becomes visible as time progresses.” The singers from the Ensemble Graindelavoix, directed by Björn Schmelzer, join Rosas’ dancers to give life, body and voice, to interwoven times. Ann Veronica Janssens, sculptor of light and colour, is with her again to add her acute sensitivity.
