Polyphonic music, harmony and dissonance, order and chaos, fury and distress, in a nutshell: Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

Ever since she founded Rosas, her dance company, lauching right away into Steve Reich's, then Thierry De Mey's percussive rhythms, music has always been Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's love line, a line whose invigorating possibilities she has ceaselessly explored. "The eye listens", Paul Claudel said. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker always alternates structure (order) and emotion (chaos), creating a "dance concert"; she develops "bodies electric" conductive of intensity and presence in a mighty "electric rush". After Bach and Webern in Zeitung, The Beatles in The Song and Mahler in 3Abschied, she now deliberately enters the 14th century with the dissonances and contrasts of Ars Subtilior, a delicate polyphonic mannerism, born at a time when the social, political and religious order of mediaeval society was exploding. Are we experiencing a similar distress in our time? In any case that is the question tackled by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, whose entire concern is to draw directly on the living bodies and their presence the erring lines of the world we inhabit.
