Lazare author, director

Walking to a wall without a door

“LAZARE, THE BASQUIAT OF THEATRE”.
HE GRAFFITIS THE WRITTEN WORD AND REINVENTS LANGUAGE. A DARING ADVENTURE, BOTH SINGULAR AND OVERWHELMING

Author and stage director Lazare draws inspiration for his stories from reality, from a personal experience transcended by compelling and diverse writing, giving each his characters a precise and strong language that constitutes a veritable wall of text from which he constructs his staging made from sensitive and simple images. The young hero, Libellule, recounts the story of his life in an abandoned part of the outer-suburbs, in which he grew up as a child from 7 to 17-years-old, preferring “the dreams of school” in no man’s land between the real world and his imaginary world, snugging himself away there to protect himself against the violence that surrounds him while searching for his real freedom. With Lazare, it’s not a documentary, an eyewitness account or an explication, but rather a contemporary theatre piece that presents a story that’s lively, energetic and troubling.
