Paraguay's musical traditions in the spotlight! Guitar, harp, requinto, songs in Guarani and Spanish, and classical guitar pay tribute to the master Agustin Barrios Mangoré.
Berta Rojas, born in Paraguay and regarded today as one of the best classical guitarists of her generation, pays tribute to the master Agustin Barrios Mangoré, an exceptional guitarist and very popular composer (his true name is Agustin Pio Barrios, and he borrowed "Mangoré" from a distinguished chief of the Paraguayan forest). She keeps alive the freshness and the vitality of an oeuvre strongly permeated with Amerindian but also European elements (especially Bach and Chopin). Popular music is dominated by the harp, the emblematic instrument of the country. The musicians and singers Juan Carlos Oviedo and the Hermanos Acuna form a typical Paraguayan trio, accompanying themselves on the Paraguayan harp, the guitar and the requinto (a small guitar tuned higher than the classical guitar) to play polkas, guaranias and galopas.
