Two soloists among the most gifted of their generation, one from the North and one from the South of India, regular visitors to the Théâtre de la Ville, meet again for a concert which is a first in Europe.
Debashish Bhattacharya and Ganesh Rajagopalan (the elder member of the Ganesh and Kumaresh duet) enjoy a natural complicity that allows them to express themselves alternatively in two facets of Indian learned music: the Hindustani from the North and the Carnatic from the South, with exogenous instruments that have very much become Indian, the Hawaiian slide guitar and the violin. Long time friends, they have already presented this Jugalbandi on many occasions: sonorous depth, vivacity, lightness, dazzling rhythm, romanticism, and also humour in turns invite us to a feast of the senses where one always remains attentive, filled with wonder by surprises, harmonic progressions and melodic detours. We see the soloists glance at each other with astonishment and appreciation, delighted at each other's finds. High-flying percussionists join them in compositions from the North (gat) as well as the South (kriti) and they all convey to the audience their joy at playing music.
