The piece lays stress on memory and its delusions by integrating projected scenes into the setting: archive footage and images from urban landscape where spectres of catastrophes, reminiscences of the past and presentiments of things to come seem to move about. Between recollection and amnesia, the performers act and dance to bring to the surface our past world, with its shady figures, its excesses and periods of madness.
The piece was conceived in close collaboration with Sylvie Blum at first, and then with a team made of a stage designer, dancers, musicians, actors, whose enriching contributions have been decisive. François Verret has thus created a theatrical sphere which delineates today’s world.
The scene is wrapped in a strange atmosphere, fluctuating between fiction and reality. Fragments of a mad and blind world are projected on screens. François Verret’s new creation draws its inspiration from Heiner Müller’s Material Landscape with Argonauts and echoes Herakles 2, another text by the German playwright; the latter relates one of the enigmas of his theatrical work: the struggle against the Hydra. It is a metaphor which gradually reveals the dark side each human carries within himself.
