This is an exceptional day to discover Afghani poetry and music, as well as a rare opportunity for an enchanting pause on the Silk Road.
Afghanistan will have the place of honour for an entire day dedicated to the music and to poetry of a country that has known the great Persian, Turkish and Moghol dynasties. The programme includes a documentary film, encounters and a concert with three masters whose names sound like so many subtle flavours. Rubab virtuoso Homayoun Sakhi, will play the multiple strings of that lute, now the emblematic instrument of the country. Originally from Herat, the former capital of the Persian empire in the north-west of the country, Gada Mohammad, a very elderly musician today, will play the two strings of his dotar releasing the stream of a repertoire combining learned and popular music.
