Israel Galván Choreographer

FLA.CO.MEN  creation

ECCENTRIC MAESTRIA
ISRAEL GALVÁN LIKES NOTHING MORE THAN SURPRISING AND PUSHING BOUNDARIES WITH A KNOW-HOW FED BY THE BEST FLAMENCO TRADITION.

Everything daring is allowed. He dances alone on a bare square, scratching the silence with the lone, dry hammering of his zapateado, he paints a mural of the genocide wherein the Gypsies were victims under Nazism, and establishes a dialogue with the kathak of Akram Khan, like we’ve seen in the previous season at the Théâtre de la Ville. Israel Galván likes nothing more than pushing boundaries and surprising with a know-how fed by the best Flamenco tradition. In FLA.CO.MEN, he deconstructs syntax again, cleaving the memory of his earlier pieces and captures on-the-fly figures that he charges with a new electricity. Without restraint, he delivers an eccentric maestria and sometimes irony to the rhythmic loquaciousness of a wonderful bunch of musicians and flamenco singers. Israel Galván does much more than dance, he creates a sparkling constellation.
