À âmes égales [Peers of the soul] They are both German. One was once a citizen of the so-called “Democratic” Germany (that he left), the other lives in Berlin. A double symbol therefore. They are both pianists: Joachim Kühn has been an icon of European jazz for four decades whereas Michael Wollny is a young prodigy of the new generation. They both think highly of the other: Wollny marvels at his older partners’s prodigious skill, while Kühn describes his young colleague as a “sensational musician”. Their first musical meeting occurred in September 2008 at the Schloss Elmau festival, in a true gem of a concert ,which would delight angels and to which a record testifies. Each has his own style and inspiration; this results in a friendly dialogue and a radiant exchange founded on balance and lightness, subtlety and fluidity. Two virtuoso musicians in search of perfection; two men with a strong personality transcend their art: this will be the sensitive and inspired encounter of two peers of the soul, without any trace of rivalry. Such a heart to heart encounter, such great art!
