Jan Fabre project
Troubleyn Company

Prometheus-landscape II  creation
Theatre-dance in english with surtitles in french

Jan Fabre, choreographer, dramaturgist, performer and plastician,  could only be fascinated by the figure of Prometheus, The Titan who stole the fire from the Gods to give it to men and was subsequently condemned to be fettered on Mount Caucasus, his liver to be eternally eaten up by a vulture. First comes the revolt, the fury and the courage placed in an act reflecting the radical freedom of a sovereign choice. But the body is there too, at once the exterior envelope and the outpouring of the viscera and other organs which the vulture devours. In short, the suffering body tormented by the ordeal. And finally, of course, there is the eternal theme, to be found in painting and sculpture, as well as in literature – didn't Kafka also have his Prometheus? It is therefore hardly surprising for Jan Fabre – who has already broached this fertile theme – to take it up again today with Prometheus Landscape II. In this choreography, the body is turned into both a mere weapon and an altar for the performing of torture; it evokes the elite soldiers of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. But it also conjures up a vision of the body as the battlefield of a civilization that wonders about the use of its light and its fire.
