JAZZ IN CHICAGO|50 years of AACM

With the Festival d'Automne à Paris

A CONCERT TO CELEBRATE 50 CREATIVE YEARS OF THE AACM AND TO BRING TOGETHER THREE GRAND JAZZ GROUPS.

A musical and militant laboratory, the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) was created in 1965 in Chicago by pianist Muhal Richard Abrams with the intention of connecting musicians searching for new forms. Its impact is considerable in the history of 20th century music. Free-jazz was structured there and the members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago met there. It’s in Chicago that Afrobeat started to shine in the United States. Musical militancy and sonic experimentation were liked to the political movements of the time that defended rights, like the Black Panthers, the National of Islam and Racial Equality. Three historic figures from the AACM, all composers and each with their own groups, have reassembled at the Théâtre du Châtelet for an exceptional anniversary concert - Wadada Leo Smith, Roscoe Mitchell and Henry Threadgill.
