SENSUAL ATTITUDE
PURE SOUL, ALBERT CAMUS? SLIPPING DANCE BETWEEN THE PAGES OF L’ÉTRANGER, JEAN-CLAUD GALLOTTA CELEBRATES THE NOVELIST AS MUCH AS THE SON OF THE SEA, OF THE LIGHT, AND THE SUN.

You dance?” the singer Juliette Gréco asks him one night in 1945 in a club in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Yes, he dances. Like he’ll dance with a Swedish student at the closing ball of the Nobel Prize in 1957. Albert Camus, consciousness of a whole people at the end of the war, leader of his generation, and a disconcerting force for more than one – he wasn’t a pure soul, although we may have wanted him to be, he was the son of the sea, of the light and the sun, for which sensuality was a source of happiness, an antidote for absurdity. The stage direction from Jean-Claude Gallotta and the pages from Camus are two beaches that radiate under the same light, the choreography and the novel can then advance together to the rhythm of confrontation between vital instinct and an instinct of death.
