This is the story of a steel plant interwoven with that of a family over three generations. The starting point is a monologue based on the letter which a son would write to his mother, a text by Italian columnist Ascanio Celestini, who, according to director Charles Tordjman, writes in the style of Fellini, Moretti or Dario Fo. “The narrative does not follow the chronology of the factory, but unveils its secrets: how, after the war, it was born of a rich man’s desire, how he monopolized it, the political alliances that allowed him to retain his power over the region. There is also a woman, as beautiful as a madonna. Incarnation of the factory and praying mantis, she gives birth to a monstrous child and charms the workers before throwing them into a well: a metaphor for the damage caused by asbestos, for example”. This play is a fable, accompanied on stage by Giovanna Marini and her trio, a witches' tale about Italy and the world, about dismantled or relocated factories. And about the gradual disappearance of the working class.
