The Pressure Instrument

The harmony of chaos
The show performed, under our eyes is a musical play with score, texts, lyrics and pictures assembled into a concert.

An initiation into true collective acting, a meditation full of humour about harmony and dissonance, a theatre play and a concert at the same time, that is what L’Instrument à pression is made of.  David Lescot is the author and one of the performers and the production is remarkably directed by Véronique Bellegarde. The show revolves around the rise and fall of a jazz trumpet player. It is a formidable musical theatrical device, enhanced by the  radiating presence of Médéric Collignon, a cornet player and inimitable singer, who also proves a very convincing actor, and by the subtle energy expressed by an outstanding actor who also has a taste for the trumpet, none other than Jacques Bonnaffé. Like a coach training a boxer, Bonnaffé initiates Collignon into the subtleties of breathing. The pupil learns very quickly;  it isn’t long before he surpasses the maestro until the day when he falls in love with a bass player - interpreted by Odja Llorca. Punctuated by Philippe Gleizes’s drums and Olivier Garouste’s videos, this lively show is also a miracle of cohesion: its disparate components fall in together in such a natural way that it evokes pure alchemy.
