Lulu  French première
in german & in english with french surtitles

with the Festival d'Automne à Paris

A mythical figure, a mythical company, the Berliner Ensemble, an outstanding director: Robert Wilson. Last but not least the unique Angela Winkler.

Lulu is a woman whom nobody can resist. Wedekind was obsessed with the character whose life he dreamt, wrote and rewrote for years. it is the original Monstre Tragödie, that Robert Wilson tightens and stages with the Berliner Ensemble. Angela Winkler is magnificent and seductive; we are overwhelmed with the journey of this woman both innocent and lethal. First a model for a painter before she has to run away to Paris where she becomes an adulated demi-mondaine, then running away again to end up a prostitute in London and a victim of Jack the Ripper. Winkler’s talent will undoubtedly render the mythical character’s vulnerability, her alluring charm, her lethal distress. Robert Wilson will undoubtedly provide us with the magic of his images on the road to Paris lit by chandeliers and with lines of cypresses on either side or in the London underworld dark as death and peopled by ghosts. And since The Berliner Ensemble actors can sing, they perform songs composed by Lou Reed.
