ZOO OU L’ASSASSIN PHILANTHROPE
Vercors, Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota
A NEW PRODUCTION AND NEW DRAMATURGY IN COLLABORATION WITH DORCY RUGAMBA, COINCIDING WITH THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSIS IN RWANDA (1994-2024).
The controversy is fascinating and profound, defying the imagination. Zoo stands as a challenge to our humanity, going back to the origins of the human race. The play follows a police and judicial investigation, extending to questions on the concept of race and certain dubious corollaries. Ultimately the survival of the industrial economy hangs on the verdict. The novel by Vercors, written in 1952 in the aftermath of WWII and revelations of the atrocities of the war, was ahead of its time, in the style of visionary and dystopic tales, anticipating issues related to anthropocentrism and transhumanism that now challenge the world today.
