Set against the backdrop of the environmental crisis, Teatro do Vestido’s intense work showcases an encounter with the indigenous “other”

Documentary-maker, actor and director Joana Craveiro stages a performance that brings the audience into close contact with the actors. She draws on films, personal accounts and the journals of ethnologists such as Bronislaw Malinowski, Philippe Descola, Jean Rouch and David Cohen, to explore the vexed question of our relationship to the “other” through their experiences with indigenous populations. In a time of climate change and depleting energy resources, it is more urgent than ever, not only to listen to, but to get closer to these fragile, vulnerable populations who are often the first victims of the environmental crisis and whose capacity to live in harmony with nature represents a precious source of knowledge.
