From 1930 to the present: portraits of women in China, a land tormented by revolution.

Wen Hui is 60 years old and she certainly makes that clear. No candles are needed, but there is a performance with a range of sensations for the audience accompanying the choreographer as she goes back in time, back to her grandmother’s village, even merging into images from old black and white progressive films made in China while still on the path to socialism. At the time, at both the top and the bottom of the social ladder, women were demanding independence. From then on, everything in I am 60 comes as a surprise: the large screen becomes a moving veil, adding magic, while Wen Hui, already lauded for her original documentary works conveying personal and political messages, introduces additional color, dancing at an inner level so fragile and moving. The Chinese believe, so she explains, that rebirth comes after a cycle of sixty years. To attend such rebirth is a wonderful experience.
