Description

THE WRITER ÉDOUARD LOUIS PLAYS HIMSELF IN A GRIPPING MONOLOGUE.

With three autobiographical narratives, 27-year-old Édouard Louis has established himself as an essential voice in contemporary literature that is directly plugged in to reality. As a genuine “class defector” who is both a writer and a politically committed artist, Louis deciphers mechanisms of domination and social violence and uses his own family experience to describe how you can reinvent yourself. After History of Violence, performed last year at Théâtre de la Ville, Thomas Ostermeier now pushes his dialogue with the writer a little further by putting him on stage, playing himself. With Qui a tué mon père, an outraged portrait inextricably mixing anger and tenderness, Édouard Louis explores the private contradictions of a broken man. The text’s shattering impact is intensified by hearing it spoken by its author and seeing him dance and share his childhood memories. Rehearsed at Théâtre de la Ville and premiered at the Schaubühne in Berlin, Qui a tué mon père is a powerful example of the fruitful collaboration between these two theatres
