A celebration of dance featuring the prizewinning companies from Danse élargie 2018.
To open the season with two days of celebration, the seven finalist companies—including the three winners—invite us to revisit the spirit of Danse élargie. We’ll have an opportunity to rediscover the British choreographer Kwame Asafo-Adjel’s blend of hip hop and theater (1st prize), Elsa Chêne’s unsettling seaside performance for 20 performers (2nd prize), and Ousmane Sy’s all-female hip hop septet (3rd prize), which undoes the stereotypes of femininity. They will be answered by the all-female quartet Sibel, which evokes the mysteries of an Etruscan fresco, the Italian Pietro Marullo with his giant floating membrane, and Saïdo Lehlou’s incredible Apaches.
