LAUREL CANYON

In six albums, Arman Méliès has earned himself a solid name in the world of French art. A name as a musician, a composer with a reputation as a traveller, writing for himself and others (Alain Bashung, Thiéfaine), able to glide from oblique pop to electronic lands. He is the inquisitive trailblazer who composed the music for Les Séparables and Les Sorcières de Salem (The Crucible), both directed by Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota at the Théâtre de la Ville. Among his childhood memories, he emphasizes the following: “Ennio Moricone’s score to Once Upon a Time in the West frightened me when I was a little kid, but it also fascinated me.” This memory and his love of travel must have inspired Arman Méliès to embark on the project to write the words and music for Trilogie Américaine—his “American trilogy.” After Roden Crater, a maiden voyage into electronica released in May 2020, and Basquiat’s Black Kingdom, an electric odyssey in the footsteps of Jean-Michel Basquiat (September), the third chapter of this unique recording adventure is Laurel Canyon (release planned for early 2021). This one-time-only concert will give us a sneak preview of this excursion into utopia and wide-open spaces.
