This artist who also teaches liturgical singing and Eastern theory at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Lebanon is said to have “a golden voice full of emotion”. Ghada Shbeir is a specialist in the sacred song of the Syriac culture of the Christian, Aramaic-speaking people who settled from Iran to Syria and Lebanon. With extreme sensitivity, the singer-scholar recreates Syriac and Maronite music and prayers that have survived for centuries, drawing on the repertoire of half a thousand melodies she has assembled.
