AN EXTRAORDINARY THEORBIST

BACH
Cello Suite n° 1, in G major, BWV 1007 (arranged for theorbo by Thomas Dunford) Suite in G minor, BWV 995 (arranged by Bach from his Cello Suite n° 5, BWV 1011) Chaconne of the Violin Partita n° 2, in D minor, BWV 1004 (arranged for theorbo by Thomas Dunford)

One of the most celebrated performers of baroque music, Thomas Dunford excels equally on the lute, as on the theorbo and baroque guitar. His brilliant career has been marked by the release of several albums (Alpha label), unanimously acclaimed by critics, and by the creation at the age of thirty of the Jupiter Ensemble, of which he is the artistic director. His first concert at the Théâtre de la Ville is dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach. He will perform several emblematic works on the theorbo: the Cello Suite No. 1 BWV 1007 and the "Chaconne" of the Violin Partita No. 2 BWV 1004, both of which he transcribed, as well as the Suite for lute BWV 995, an adaptation by the composer of his Suite No. 5 for cello. It is sure to be a memorable moment.
