AN OUTSTANDING QUARTET
BEETHOVEN Quartet in G major, op. 18 n° 2
GOUBAÏDULINA Quatuor n° 1 (1971)
BEETHOVEN Quartet in C-sharp minor, op. 131
Few string quartets can pride themselves on a career as brilliant as the Quatuor Minguet’s. For thirty years, this internationally renowned ensemble has graced the world’s largest concert halls with performances of a vast repertoire ranging from the 18th to the 21st century. The program is most audacious: two quartets by Beethoven composed twenty-six years apart—the Opus 18 No. 2 whose humor and lightness reflect Haydn and the Opus 131, his penultimate quartet of great modernity from a formal point of view—confront the inventive Quartet No. 1 by the great contemporary Russian composer Sofia Goubaïdulina, who has been living in exile in Germany since the fall of the Berlin Wall and who celebrates her ninetieth birthday in 2021.
