Rémi Esterle has moved through tango, circus and hip hop, and now has a female duo on a treadmill, embracing and verging on infinity. The bodies must be constantly in line with the changing speed, immediately modulating echoes and sensations in a cyclical pas de deux where physical prowess requires just as much commitment from the mind.
Laying down arms, opening the mouth: Nicolas Barry’s Grand Crié revives the cry, the scream, as a means of expression and artistic assertion, marking a symbolic shift away from the norms. The trio ranges back and forth between cabaret, lecture and sound poetry, starting with the image of a scream, a sense of muteness and horror, yet humor prevails, particularly when Maria Callas is conjured up for a ballet of chin movements in play-back.
