A HYBRID DUO IN A CONCERT FOR ARMENIA AND FREEDOM.
Here is world music of rare depth, reinventing what has often been passed off simplistically as Balkan folklore and bringing energy to the format of pop music from the English-speaking world. Jaklin Baghdasaryan was born in Armenia, raised in Belarus then made her way to France. Louis Thomas was originally a graphic artist, but turned to music, with a predilection for jamming, and that was how he met up with Jaklin in a bar in the city of Lille. The two artists both studied in the same jazz class at the Lille Conservatoire, and began to work together, ending up with the worldwide success of Kef Chilini, their single released in 2020. Inspiration came from traditional Armenian music and many other sources such as Chopin, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, plus reggae, gnawa and maloya.
