How can landscape of sound emerge from the movement and vibration of bodies? Christos Papadopoulos’ new work brings together the physicality of resonance with the musicality of gesture through the medium of breath. Here, pulsing respiration awakens the kinetic impulse and the body resonates like a musical instrument. Inspired by the chorus of Greek tragedy, Papadopoulos looks back at collective Hellenic memory through the prism of Mikis Theodorakis’ contemporary music and its exploration of the rhythm and abstraction of language. The ten dancers form a manifold body whose movements are transcendent, precise and yet open the spontaneity and power of the moment. A fresh blend of artistic languages and a feast for the ears.
