Since the creation of her Rite of Spring in 1993, Marie Chouinard has forged a style unmatched for its daring and unique physical expression. After Chopin, Debussy, Stravinsky and the Goldberg Variations, she takes on Bach’s MAGNIFICAT in D major. Carried by this monumental ode to a redeemed and peaceful world, the Quebecois choreographer brings us a compelling and dynamic series of dances for ensembles, trios and duos. This work has striking resonance with the elegant lines of Henri Michaux : Mouvements, a piece which she created twenty years ago. To the electronic music of Louis Dufort, twelve dancers respond to the airy starkness of the fluid, dream-like figurines drawn by the poet, giving life to his famous black ink sketches.
