THEATRO MUNICIPAL DE SÃO PAULO, BALÉ DA CIDADE, RAFAELA SAHYOUN Fôlego / Boca Abissal • Original
Featuring 18 dancers

FLAMING COLOURS, FRENZIED RYTHMS: A JOYFUL, BRAZILIAN COLLECTIVE DANCE.
A new star has appeared in the skies of dance. Rafaela Sahyoun shot to prominence through a commission from the excellent São Paulo City Ballet directed by Alejandro Ahmed. Her meticulous control of Fôlego (breath) and sophisticated choreography emerge on stage as a taste of freedom, a profusion of rhythms and colours and a swinging pulse. The dancers move in a continuous, rolling, flow, exalting bodies and swaying hearts. The second part of the programme unveils Rafaela Sahyoun’s new creation for the Ballet. Seven dancers from Boca Abissal (Abyssal mouth), sweep across the stage in large circular patterns, driven by large propulsive movements and Brazilian electro-beats.
