WHAT IF MEDEA FINALLY HAD THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRAIL...
The founder of his very own style of dance-theatre, Ben Duke’s works often feature tragic heroines taking back control of their own stories. It is no surprise then for him to revisit a story that has provoked indescribable horror, hope and intrigue for humanity for over two millennia: Medea! The woman who supposedly murdered her own children, who may have attracted plenty of fire, but whose story is timeless. This time, Jason must answer for this romantic betrayal, and Ben Duke warns us, “this is not the story of Medea you think you know!”. By removing the masculine prism from this foundational, ethical myth, he questions our collective memory and reminds us that Medea is not a monster, but a woman with her own desires and desperation.
