A graceful nod to Western culture? With five white swans in a perfect line, Yoko Omori takes on the aesthetics of European romanticism from a Japanese perspective. A source of inspiration she cheerfully mixes with others, such as clubbing and manga. This young choreographer cleverly plays with the codes of different cultures to create precise, expressive and mischievous movement. A winner of the 2022 Danse élargie contest, Omori developed her style by accelerating the movements of hip-hop, ballet and contemporary dance. In her solo, A Park, she unpacks emotions and memories, taking audiences on a walk through an amusement park. But the park is dilapidated, rusted from the inside. Underneath a light-hearted and humorous exterior, each of her works contains as much darkness as it does light, hinting at the personal and cultural pitfalls that she is constantly skirting around.
