MÉDUSE ET MERVEILLE Lisa Guez / Alexandre Tran
Featuring 5 performers • ORIGINAL CREATION
A MODERN COMING OF AGE FOLK TALE ABOUT CHILD REARING, TRUTH AND FREEDOM.
Once upon a time, in a grey country, full of worried people, two children were locked up in opposite towers. On one side, Merveille, a naive boy, raised on the soothing tales of his father, who would go to any lengths to protect him from harsh reality. On the other side, Méduse, a girl hardened by the lessons of her mother, who tirelessly prepared her to confront a world of full of nightmares and villains. When an unexpected event leaves them outside together, a series of encounters leads to the discovery that life is very different from what their parents led them to believe. After Loin dans la mer, a joyful, modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, Lisa Guez returns to the Théâtre de la Ville with a new work about raising children. Written in the style of a coming-of-age tale, Méduse et Merveille is not just aimed at kids, but adults too. It explores the level freedom and different roles we give to children, and how they must leave behind their parents’ fears in order to truly grow up.
