Born in Bengaluru, Bharathi Prathap grew up immersed in Carnatic and hindustani traditions. Trained under great masters, such as Vidushi Lalith J. Rao, she studied in the demanding Agra Gharana tradition, learning an ancestral vocal style that emerged in the 13th century. Having abandoned a career as an engineer, she devoted herself fully to music. With her vast musical knowledge, encompassing Bhavageete and both northern and southern classical Indian music, Bharathi Prathap is recognised as a leading ambassador of hindustani singing.
